The blade is signed Yoshimitsu from mid Muromachi period. This is yoroi-doshi (armor piercer) in thickness and likely the work of 6th generation active in 1470’s AD. The koshirae needs little explanation, the pictures do all the explaining but to emphasize we immediately are drawn to this silver snake that wraps around this fallen tree that has incredible detail. If you look carefully we see gold overlay of vines growing but it is difficult to catch these details because after looking into the snakes eyes we are also drawn to the large silver dragonflies on the nakago that wrap entirely the kashira. Possibly the scenery is they are hunting the beautiful lacquered butterfly depicted on the tsuka. A set worthy of adding to ones collection.
