| Full notes: | This is a nice complete set, both blade and fittings, blade accompanied by NBTHK Hozon and Sayagaki by the late Honami Koson. Made by the 2nd gen. Shigekuni of the Kii province. Kii is a stunning area of Japan which has some of the oldest temples unknown to most tourists, and historically the Shigekuni line prospered for centuries there thanks to the success of the Famous 1st generation smith. Shigekuni the 1st worked for Tokugawa Ieyasu and was regarded as one of the best Shinto smiths. This blade is elegant and long, suriage a little with the complete Mei. It has 2 oversized mekugi-ana and the school was known for very large peg holes. The fittings are bird them mixed with a Higo Fuchi / Kashira, the saya is very old and has an interesting lacquer work with another higo Kojiri. |
