| Full notes: | This is an early Edo period Wakizashi that remains unaltered, accompanied with Fujishiro Certification. The nakago (tang) is ubu and signed "Bushū Shitahara-jū Yasushige", the Yasushi ge line spanned from Late Muromachi period to Meiji period and was located in Musashi (today Tokyo region). This particular piece belongs to 3rd or 4th generation Yasushige, the blade is well made. Cutting edge measures 53.3 cm and the polish is recent and in good health.
The fittings are absolutely superb, comes with everything complete including the unique Kozuka with Kogatana that are finely made and even signed. The fittings are of very high quality, we see the Kamon (family crest) of the Ogasawara Clan. The saya (sheath) has some exquisite lacquer work, it is original and we don't see this color so it is rare. The iron tsuba was also well made, with 2 different faces, its made of iron and has a copper rim, beautiful patina |
