Exactly as described in the title. Work by the legendary Muramasa, a large wakizashi which appears to be the work of Nidai Muramasa. A healthy forged piece in elegant Edo koshirae. Originally signed if you look carefully several strokes of “Mura” can be made out. As the history goes Muramasa works were cursed to the tokugawa family, so much so they were ordered to be destroyed. Owning such a piece could be punishable by death and so many of the signatures were either altered or removed entirely. Like in the case of this piece, the owner did what they needed to do in order to save such a precious piece of history. Those who apposed the tokugawa kept the signatures but also carried a great weight knowing if he found out what he would do. This piece would have been most likely an ally of the tokugawa, completely removing the mei in order to avoid attention.
It is surprising to see such a long piece, typically almost all examples are Tanto in length, few Wakizashi and even fewer Katana.
We can recommend this piece both for rarity and investment as Muramasa works are increasingly more difficult to find.
