Beautiful work by the famous Shin-Shinto Naokatsu, Jo-jo Saku ranked smith. The Tachi Mei reads “Shoji Jiro Taro Naokatsu”, and dated “February of 1857AD”. This work would have been made 1 year before his early death. He was a remarkable smith and studied directly under Taikei Naotane, known for his wide range of work this piece mimics that of Yamashiro which he did not do so often. The blade has been awarded Tokubetsu Hozon by the NBTHK and is incredibly long at 81.2 cm, it also has a lovely Dragon horimono that is carved straight through. To compliment the blade we have a complete Shishi Dog theme, in Shakudo and very tasteful.
